Technical specifications of our fly screens
At Moskera we don't just fight insects: we install peace and quiet. And it all starts with the mesh, the heart of a fly screen. It is the mesh that stops what you don't want while letting air, light and the view through. Here, in full transparency, is what it is made of.
The same premium mesh goes into all three models (door, large opening and window): a PVC-coated E-glass fibreglass fabric, tightly woven, with flame-retardant filaments.
Technical specifications of the mesh
From the most important to the most secondary, here is the full spec sheet of our fabric.
| Specification | Value | What it changes for you |
|---|---|---|
| Mesh density | 18 × 16 threads per inch (per 2.54 cm) | A tight weave, the reference standard: the right balance between protection, air and light. |
| Hole size | ≈ 1.1 to 1.5 mm | Fine enough to block common flying insects, open enough to breathe. |
| Insects stopped | Mosquitoes, flies, wasps, hornets, bees, moths, large spiders | A genuine mechanical barrier, with no chemicals at all. |
| Material | PVC-coated E-glass fibreglass | The strength of glass with the flexible protection of PVC: durable and stable. |
| Filament treatment | Flame-retardant (M2 fire rating) | The mesh slows the flame and does not catch alight like an ordinary textile. |
| Colour | Black | Black absorbs light: better visibility outwards, and a discreet fabric. |
| Visibility outwards | ≈ 70 to 75 % | You can see outside almost unhindered: the view stays clear. |
| Air and light | ≈ 59 % open area (≈ 69 % of light, ≈ 65 % of airflow kept) | The room stays cool, ventilated and bright. |
| UV resistance | Anti-UV, S1 rating | It does not yellow or grow brittle in the sun, year after year. |
| Durability | Does not rust, rot-proof, keeps its shape | Ideal outdoors, in the rain and by the sea alike. |
| Mechanical strength | 90 to 2000 daN / 5 cm | A tough fabric that will not tear in use. |
| Fabric weight | 122 g/m² | A dense, quality mesh, not a bargain-bin fabric. |
| Glass thread diameter | 0.02 mm | A fine, discreet thread, but tightly woven for strength. |
| Standards and certifications | ISO 9001:2015, NF EN 13561, M2 fire, anti-UV S1 | Controlled quality, compliant with manufacturing standards. |
| Safety | Non-toxic, insecticide-free | Safe for children and pets alike. Meow. Woof. |
| Care | Sponge or damp cloth (no washing machine, no abrasives) | A wipe with a sponge and it is clean: no hassle. |
| Fitting | No drilling, no screws (magnetic system and self-adhesive hook-and-loop) | Fitted in around 10 minutes, without damaging your walls or joinery. |
| Service life | 8 to 20 years | A purchase that lasts: peace and quiet for the long run. |
One mesh, three formats
Whichever model you choose, you get the same PVC-coated fibreglass fabric, flame-retardant and tear-proof. What changes is the format and the use.
Door model
For front, garage and back doors. A central magnetic opening that closes itself behind you.
Large opening model
For sliding glass doors, patio doors and wide openings. Designed to cover the most generous openings.
Window model
For all your windows. Fitted without drilling, ideal whether you rent or own.
Why E-glass fibreglass?
- Against aluminium: it does not rust, does not dent, does not hold creases, and stays flexible (perfect for a magnetic system).
- Against bare fibreglass: the PVC coating locks the weave, protects the thread, stabilises the colour and makes cleaning easier.
- Against polyester: it is more stable in heat, does not slacken, and has a non-combustible glass core.
Frequently asked questions about the mesh
Which insects does an 18 × 16 mesh stop?
Mosquitoes, flies, wasps, hornets, bees, moths and large spiders. For the very smallest midges (midges, thrips), a finer mesh is needed: 18 × 16 remains the ideal standard for the vast majority of homes.
Does the mesh let air and light through properly?
Yes. About 59 % of the surface is open, which keeps close to 69 % of the light and 65 % of the airflow. The room stays cool, airy and bright.
Why is the fabric black?
Black absorbs light instead of reflecting it: it gives the best visibility outwards (around 70 to 75 %), with less glare, and stays discreet seen from outside.
Does the mesh rust or lose its shape over time?
No. Fibreglass does not rust, does not corrode, is rot-proof and keeps its shape, unlike aluminium, which dents and holds creases.
Is the mesh fire resistant?
Yes. Its filaments are flame-retardant and the fabric is rated M2 (hard to ignite): it slows the flame and does not catch alight like an ordinary textile.
How do I clean the fly screen?
A wipe with a sponge or a damp cloth is enough. Avoid the washing machine and abrasive products, which damage the PVC coating.
Is it safe for children and pets?
Yes. The mesh is non-toxic, flexible (no sharp metal edges) and works as a mechanical barrier: no insecticide, no chemicals.
How long does the mesh last?
From 8 to 20 years depending on use: anti-UV coating, stable and hard-wearing fibreglass. A purchase that lasts.
