The Doors American Screens Do Not Cover

Most American houses have a screen on the front door and a screen panel in the sliding door. The complaints are almost always about one of three doors, and none of them are solved by buying another one of the same thing.

The slider screen that jumped its track

This is the most common one by a wide margin. The screen panel on a sliding glass door runs in a shallow outer track on small rollers, and once the rollers wear or the track fills with grit the panel binds, gets forced, and comes off the track for good. Rescreening it fixes nothing, because the mesh was never the problem. A panel fixed to the trim covers the whole opening no matter what the old track is doing, and it has no rollers to fail.

French doors and patio doors that never had one

In-swing and out-swing French doors are rarely supplied with any screen at all, and retrofitting one usually means a retractable unit and an installer. Since the second leaf is normally bolted shut and only one side is used day to day, a single magnetic panel across the whole opening handles both leaves and closes itself behind you when your hands are full.

A note on no-see-ums

If you are on the Gulf Coast or in coastal Florida and the problem is no-see-ums rather than mosquitoes, a standard 18x16 mesh will not hold them and 20x20 no-see-um screening is what the job needs. We do not make it, and we would rather tell you now than after it is fitted.
