Fly screen curtain: strips, chains or magnetic?

Fly screen curtain: which one actually closes?

Three families of insect door curtains. Only one closes itself behind you.

PVC strip curtains, decorative chain curtains or a magnetic flyscreen curtain: they all get called "fly screen curtains", and they do not do the same job. Here is what each one lets through, what it really involves, and which one to choose for your door.

The real issue

A curtain that does not close is an open door.

The anti-fly door curtain is the oldest summer reflex there is. But between PVC strips that part with the slightest breeze, chains that decorate more than they block, and net panels that hang half-open after every pass, most of them let in part of what they promise to stop. The point is not to have a curtain: it is to have one that closes, tight, every single time.

The three families

Strips, chains, clip-on kits: what each one really does

None of them is a scam. Each was designed for a specific use, rarely the one it gets asked to do.

The PVC strip curtain

Built for high-traffic doorways in shops and workshops: it cuts down airflow and insects but never seals. The strips part in the wind and hang half-open.

The chain curtain

The aluminium look of southern doorways. Pretty, somewhat dissuasive for flies in direct flight, but mosquitoes pass between the chains without slowing down. A decorative choice first.

The clip-on net kit

The entry-level aisle option: two net panels held by drawing pins or tape. The panels gape in the middle after a few passes, and the fixing gives up before the season ends.

Our answer

The magnetic curtain: fine mesh that closes itself

Our door fly screen is a two-panel curtain with a central magnetic closure, also known as a magnetic screen door: you walk through, the magnets snap shut behind you, and the mesh stays sealed from top to bottom. Fixed to the frame without drilling, cut to measure to the centimetre for your door.

  • Closes itself after every pass, hands full included
  • Fine sealed mesh keeps mosquitoes and flies outside
  • No drilling: adhesive strip, removes without a trace, rental friendly

The low price of strips and chains is real: if your need is decorative, or a busy shop doorway, they do the job. To sleep with the door open and no mosquitoes, you need a closure.

Good to know

Your questions about fly screen curtains

Does a PVC strip curtain stop mosquitoes?

It reduces the numbers without stopping them: the strips overlap without sealing, and the slightest draught opens gaps. It is a product for traffic flow (shops, warehouses), not for sealing a home.

Are chain curtains effective?

Against flies in direct flight, partially. Against mosquitoes, no: the gaps between the chains are more than enough for them. Their real role is decorative.

How does the magnetic curtain close?

Magnets sewn along the full height of both panels: you walk through, they snap back together within a second, from top to bottom. Nothing to do, even with your arms full.

What about renting?

It is the ideal case: the adhesive strip peels off without a trace, nothing is drilled, and the curtain moves out with you.

How much does a magnetic fly screen curtain cost?

Standard sizes are the entry point, and made to measure is cut to the centimetre for your door. The exact price appears in the configurator before you order anything.
